What is set up on a crossplay server
- Paper as the server, so plugins work for everyone
- Geyser, which translates between Bedrock and Java
- Floodgate, so Bedrock players join with their Microsoft account and need no Java account
- A Bedrock port of its own, already filled in in the Geyser config
Bedrock player names start with a dot by default, for example .Steve123, so they never clash with a Java name. Change the prefix in the Floodgate config if you want.

Java and Bedrock players joining
| Player on | Where | What to type |
|---|---|---|
| PC, Mac, Linux (Java Edition) | Multiplayer, Add Server | The server address |
| Phone, tablet, Windows Bedrock | Servers, Add Server | The server address and the Bedrock port |
| Xbox, PlayStation, Switch | Servers tab with a workaround | See the crossplay guide |
Do not set the Geyser port to 19132 or turn on the option that copies the Java port. Bedrock players can then no longer connect, while Java players notice nothing.
All details, including linking a Java and a Bedrock account, are in Java and Bedrock crossplay.
Keep the crossplay server on a current version
Bedrock updates itself on phones and consoles, so Bedrock players always run the newest version. Geyser follows those updates. Keep the server on a recent Minecraft version and update Geyser with it.
Need an older Java version for a plugin? Add ViaVersion from the plugin catalog, so Geyser can still talk to the server.
RAM for a crossplay server
Geyser translates every packet for Bedrock players, so a crossplay server needs a little more than a Paper server with the same players.
| Crossplay server | Players online | RAM | Price a month |
|---|---|---|---|
| Family with PC and phones | Up to 6 | 4 GB | €3.20 |
| Friends on PC and consoles | Up to 10 | 6 GB | €4.80 |
| Crossplay SMP with plugins | Up to 15 | 8 GB | €6.40 |
| Public crossplay server | Up to 30 | 12 GB | €9.60 |

Questions about Crossplay Minecraft server hosting
Can I turn an existing Java server into a crossplay server?
Yes. Add Geyser and Floodgate from the plugin catalog on a Paper server and set Geyser to the Bedrock port from the panel, or ask support to do it.
Do Bedrock players see everything Java players see?
Almost everything. Geyser fills most gaps, a few things such as custom item models from Java resource packs look different on Bedrock.
Can Bedrock players use mods?
No. Mods need Fabric, Forge or NeoForge, which Bedrock players cannot join. A crossplay server uses plugins.
Is crossplay more expensive?
No. Crossplay costs the same €0.80 per GB of RAM a month as every other server type.
